I LOVED this book! The world building and overall storyline was fantastic and really fast paced. A virus causes some men to go through an extremely violent transition to Alphas - physically larger, stronger, and with heightened senses. At first they’re all almost feral with rage, but after a couple days, they settle down. The world only knows what the media and government has been feeding them though, and they’re being hunted by the government, militias, and other alpha packs. When Orion meets Mal, who is a reporter, Orion's pack alpha has him invite her to stay with their pack and tell their story. This story has non-stop action will have you gripped from beginning to end.The characters in the Alpha Awakens are just amazing. I just loved Mal. She’s tired of getting pushed around, tired of living in fear, and determined to spread the truth of the Awakening. It’s wonderful to see her journey to reclaiming her strength. Orion is just grumpy alpha perfection. He’s thoughtful, considerate, and really tries to keep hold over his baser instincts when it come to doing what’s best for Mal. His backstory is heartbreaking, endearing you to him even more. The attraction between Mel and Orion is off the chain from the moment they meet. And the smexy times! Oh. My. Word. I’m lucky my kindle didn’t catch on fire, lol. But it’s not just Mal and Orion you fall in love with. ALL the characters are great and Anna gives you just enough nuggets about them to leave you frantic for their stories as well. I really cannot say enough about this book! I would have never been able to tell it was a debut novel. And anyone who writes characters with Ruby Dixon books on their shelves have an in with me, lol. I seriously cannot wait for Samson’s story - there just seems like there’s so much there to tell. But the other one, the brooding one in the dark hoodie, suddenly appears outside her door, asking to lick her, saying her smelled her arousal from across the street, and for some reason she lets him. He blows her mind and all her preconceived notions of the Awakened. He speaks, feels, desires, and he immediately backs off when heis size hurts her. So, when he returns and asks her to come with him to see how the Alphas actually live and to report on the truth behind the scary news stories that control the media, her journalistic senses jump at the chance while her inner minx rejoices to have another chance with Orion.This is an incredibly interesting take on the omega verse, a steamy journey into the most primal urges of man. Everything you've ever dreamed of in a possessive alpha male combined with an exciting story with depth and no slow parts. All the characters are relatable and you can't help but love them all. I hope we get a lot more stories about these people. I definitely want to hear more about Grizz and Jude, and Samson is such an interesting alpha too. I definitely want more of him.I've never read anything by this author before, not sure if this is her first book, but if it is I am unbelievably impressed. She writes fluently and grabs you completely. I devoured this in one go. I will definitely look for more from her. Also, being an amateur editor myself, it was such a pleasure to read a book with absolutely no typos, a rarety in the indie book world.
